How to use the Microsoft Windows 5 Whiteboard app to share your projects

Have you tried out the new Microsoft Windows 10 Whiteboard app yet? It’s part of the Windows Ink workspace, which also includes Sketchpad and Sticky Notes, so you can use the whiteboard to sketch or to write down ideas while they’re fresh in your mind. And, thanks to sharing and collaboration tools like OneDrive and OneNote, you can share what you’ve done with others—whether they’re at your side or across the world.

Create a project in OneNote

In OneNote, select New Page > Type Title > Type Pages (Name) > Add Slides > Drag objects into new slides. Select Finish. Once the page is created, you can select Home > Windows Touch Menu in the lower left corner of OneNote and select Start Whiteboarding Mode. You’ll see a small white marker appear on the screen–use this marker to move items around by touching and holding on an object, then dragging it to where you want it.

Share it with others

This post is a step-by-step guide on how to access and use the new Whiteboard app. The purpose of this blog post is for anyone that has been trying unsuccessfully for hours (as I was) to get it going, to be able to do so with ease.

Create an account

To start using the whiteboard in Windows 10, you need to create an account. Go to Settings>Accounts>Other accounts and select Add a work or school account. Now enter all of your information, agree to some policies and follow instructions. You will now be able to access the whiteboard by going back into settings and finding it under Accounts.

Get the app

First, download and install Microsoft OneDrive on your computer. Next, install the Whiteboard app from within that same folder. Once installed, simply open it up and start drawing! When you’re done creating, you can either save it locally or as a screenshot. Lastly, you’ll want to go back into OneDrive and upload it to a shared project folder of sorts so others can see your work. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me in the comments below!

Create a new Whiteboard project

To get started, go to Cortana on your windows computer, click Start a New Project, and follow the instructions. You can add drawings and comments by right-clicking and choosing Draw. To share your project, type in an email address where you want it sent or shared, then press Share Project at the top. You’ll be able to see who’s seen it and how many people are currently viewing it.

Microsoft Windows 10 Whiteboard app is perfect for brainstorming and for when you want to share your project with colleagues, students, or friends. Here’s how it works:

  •  Open Word.
  •  Click File and then select Share as a White Board (or PowerPoint or OneNote).
  •  Save your file in any supported formats.
